This mapping site looks so good I immediately uploaded one of my Trans Pennine Trail sections to try it out. You can view it here.

I’ll be watching the development of this one with keen interest

Trans Pennine Trail – Full GPS Route Map – Southport to Hornsea

Trans Pennine Trail (1) Southport to Trafford (53 miles)

The route in the Stockport area has a number of legs to the town centre and other places, and the signposting doesn’t make it clear which is the actual main route. My route is the official West to East path:

Trans Pennine Trail (2) Trafford to Hattersley via Stockport (23 miles)

Trans Pennine Trail (3) Hattersley to Oxspring branch (24 miles)

Of the two alternatives that follow, the Worsbrough one is the easier. After an early climb, the path is downhill all the way to the RSPB Old Moor. The Tankersley option is up and down a bit, has a section with a flight of steps and poor waymarking. However it does take in the Heritage Centre at Elsecar.

Trans Pennine Trail (4a) Oxspring branch to Old Moor via Worsbrough (11 miles)

Trans Pennine Trail (4b) Oxspring branch to Old Moor via Tankersley (13 miles)

Revisions to the route near Bolton upon Dearne are incorporated here (July 2009):

Trans Pennine Trail (5) Old Moor to Selby (44 miles)

The route to North Ferriby is the correct one following changes to the A63 at Melton:

Trans Pennine Trail (6) Selby to North Ferriby (32 miles)

Unless you have a good reason to take the villages route, I would stick with the Humber foreshore route of the following two; unless you want to avoid a not so good path along the edge of the foreshore:

Trans Pennine Trail (7a) North Ferriby to Hessle via Humber Foreshore (5 miles)

Trans Pennine Trail (7b) North Ferriby to Hessle via Swanland and Kirkella (6 miles)

Trans Pennine Trail (8 ) Hessle to Hornsea (19 miles)

A detour to York from Selby:

Trans Pennine Trail Selby to York (15 miles)
